Venue: Estádio Do Dragão (50033 seats)

This promises to be an action-packed encounter for Porto at Estádio Do Dragão when the Champions League tournament arrives in town and Liverpool with it. Read all about the Group Stage match here!

There’s little time for restitution or working hard at the training pitch these days, with both teams having played their last game less than four days ago.

Liverpool have a very long trip to this away game, as there's more than 2300 kilometers in distance to cover. This could prove a challenge, at least for the supporters.

Porto form and stats

Porto was eliminated in the quarter-finals last season in the Champions League. Chelsea was too strong.

Perfect Primeira Liga season at home so far for Porto 3 wins from 3 appearances. In general it's been a long time since Porto tasted defeat here at Estádio Do Dragão, as they have taken at least one point from their last 18 home games in the league.

Happy days for Porto in their previous game, a Primeira Liga match away at Gil Vicente that ended with a 2-1 victory. World class coaching! That was the thoughts of S. Marceneiro Conceição when Sérgio Oliveira scored the winning goal after coming on as a substitute in the 68th minute. Midfield player Vitinha got a match rating of 7.5 in that game, the max score being 10. Vitinha hit one key pass, dribled past the opponent 2 of 2 times and had 50 successful passes (of 59 total).

Ahead of that match, Porto won a home game hosting Moreirense (5-0).

The match schedule is unforgiving for Porto as they have a new game in only four days, a Primeira Liga match thankfully also at home. Pacos de Ferreira are visiting.

It's goals goals goals for Porto who have scored 10 goals from 3 league home games. Defensively Porto have been outstanding, conceding less than half a goal on average per home game in the league (0 in 3 games). For more goal stats, check the Statistics tab above.

Liverpool form and stats

Liverpool was sent out of Champions League in the quarter-finals last season, when Real Madrid turned out to be too strong.

Liverpool are happy with their away performances in the Premier League so far, having secured two victories and one draw from their first three travels. Things are running smoothly for Liverpool who hasn't tasted defeat in their last 16 matches, regardless of venue and tournament. Their last defeat was against Fulham.

Liverpool has to pack their bags again for the second away game in a row. Last time they traveled to Brentford for a Premier League game that ended a draw (3-3). As you can tell from the result, the match against Brentford was as crazy as a clown in a village circus. Great fun for the neutral supporter with 6 goals, will the fun continue today? Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was the best team player with a rating of 7.45. Alexander-Arnold hit one key pass and won 5 of 7 duels.

Before that one, a nice away victory 3-0 at Norwich City.

The prediction for this game is lots of goals as Liverpool alone have scored more than three on average in their league games away (9 from 3 played). Liverpool have conceded 3 goals in these away matches.

Head 2 Head

H2H stats regardless of arena (last six matches): Porto zero wins, two draws and Liverpool four victories. As for goals, three matches ended with three or more goals (over 2,5), three games had two or less.

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
