Atlético Madrid form and stats

Atlético participated in Champions League the last season, where they reached the 8th finals and lost against Chelsea.

OK but not perfect. That could be the conclusion for Atlético Madrid's two home games in the La Liga so far this season, having collected 4 points here at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

A strong away win for Atlético against Espanyol the last match, as Thomas Lemar and Yannick Carrasco were on target. Midfielder Yannick Carrasco was the best player on the team with a rating of 7.75 (out of ten) in that game. Carrasco scored one goal, served one assist, hit one key pass, dribled passed the opponent 6 of 8 times and had 28 successful passes (of 35 total). Manager D. Simeone felt very clever after Thomas Lemar scored the winning goal against Espanyol, having brought on that player as a substitute in the 46th minute. Some amazing scenes last match, when Thomas Lemar scored the winning goal nine minutes into stoppage time.

The spoils were shared after 90 minutes before that, a La Liga home game that ended 2-2 versus Villarreal.

The match schedule is unforgiving for Atlético Madrid as they have a new game in only three days, a La Liga match thankfully also at home. Athletic Club are visiting.

Early season league goal statistics from Atlético Madrid's 2 home games: 3 goals, 2 conceded.

Porto form and stats

Porto's mission in Champions League last season failed in the quarter-finals against Chelsea.

Things could have gone better for Porto in their Primeira Liga away matches, but 5 points from 3 games is all right. Things are running smoothly for Porto who hasn't tasted defeat in their last 33 matches, regardless of venue and tournament. Their last defeat was against Pacos de Ferreira.

Porto has to pack their bags again for the second away game in a row. Last time they traveled to Sporting CP for a Primeira Liga game that ended a draw (1-1). Goalkeeper Diogo Costa got the top player rating of the team with 7.33/10. Costa stopped the opponent with four saves.

Before that, Porto secured a home win against Arouca with the score 3-0.

A new game in only four days for Porto, the Primeira Liga home match versus Moreirense. Busy days.

Porto have a decent goal production going in their away games, although not fantastic. In 3 league away games 4 goals have been scored. As opposed to that, Porto have seen the ball go into their own net 3 times on the road.

Head 2 Head

Head-2-head stats last six meetings: two - two - two (Atlético wins - draws - Porto wins). As for goals, three matches ended with three or more goals (over 2,5), three had two or less.

Read more about Champions League

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
