Competition: Wed 15.September
Match begins: 19:00 (UTC)
Venue: Anfield (54074 seats)

Liverpool and Milan get a break from their league challenge to fight for a possible trophy in this Champions League Group Stage fixture.

There’s little time for restitution or working hard at the training pitch these days, with both teams having played their last game less than four days ago.

These teams have little in common geographically as Milan have to travel 1600 kilometers to reach their opponents. The trip home will be especially long if the match ends in defeat.

Liverpool form and stats

Last season, Liverpool's Champions League journey ended in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid.

Only two Premier League home games for Liverpool so far, yet both highs and lows with 1 win, 1 draw and 0 defeat. Liverpool has a nice streak going on as they have played 14 consecutive leaguegames without losing (regardless of home/away). They are keen to extend their tally, a streak that began after the Fulham defeat 192 days ago.

Happy days for Liverpool in their previous game, a Premier League match away at Leeds United that ended with a 3-0 victory. Midfield player Thiago Alcântara got a match rating of 8.03 in that game, the max score being 10. Alcântara served one assist, hit two key passes, dribled passed the opponent 1 of 1 times and had 54 successful passes (of 61 total).

In the match before that, Liverpool hosted Chelsea and drew the Premier League game 1-1.

Some members of the home team might already be thinking of their next match, the Premier League game versus Crystal Palace in only three days. This game is also played here at Anfield.

Liverpool has scored 3 goals so far and conceded 1 goal from 2 home games. These are numbers from the league only.

Milan form and stats

They also participated in Europa League last season. This ended in the 8th finals, when Manchester United drew the shortest straw.

1 win, 0 draws and 0 losses. That’s the product of Milan playing as the away team in the Serie A this season. The visitors have performed well in their home games as well, building a total win streak of four games home and away. Milan hope to make it five in this match.

Rafael Leão and Zlatan Ibrahimović scored in Milan's previous match, the home game against Lazio that ended 2-0. Ante Rebić, attacking player, was the top performer on the team in that game, scoring a match rating of 8.15. Rebić signed up for two assists, hit seven key passes, dribled passed the opponent 2 of 4 times and had 20 successful passes (of 24 total).

Before that, Milan secured a home win against Cagliari with the score 4-1.

There might be some complaints about the fixture list from the Milan manager S. Pioli as the team has another away game coming up in only four days, this time against Juventus.

1 goal so far away for Milan, while their defence has allowed the opposition to score 0. All from 1 league match away.

Head 2 Head

As for the last two games between these two teams, there's one Liverpool victory, zero draws and one Milan win. Over/under statistics; one of these games ended with three goals or more, one match with two goals or less.

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
