Competition: Tue 19.October
Match begins: 19:00 (UTC)
Venue: Estádio Do Dragão (50033 seats)

Porto and Milan get a break from their league challenge to fight for a possible trophy in this Champions League Group Stage fixture.

It's no vacation for neither Porto nor Milan as both were in action only a few days ago. Expect some tired legs on the pitch and/or possibly some changes to the lineups.

These teams have little in common geographically as Milan have to travel 1900 kilometers to reach their opponents. The trip home will be especially long if the match ends in defeat.

Porto form and stats

Last season their Champions League adventure ended in the quarter-finals against Chelsea.

The overall Primeira Liga statistics at home this season for Porto are 4-0-0 (wins-draws-losses). The Porto fans aren't used to losing league-games here at Estádio Do Dragão and will expect new points from this game. Porto has played 19 games in a row here without a defeat.

Porto are returning here after visiting Sintrense in a Taça De Portugal game and winning with a 5-0 scoreline. Evanilson (2), Toni Martínez and Sérgio Oliveira (2) scored the goal(s). As mentioned above, Porto "killed" Sintrense in their previous game. They need to reset completely for this one and beware of complacency.

Previous to that game, a Primeira Liga home match hosting Paços de Ferreira in a game that was won 2-1.

The bookmakers consider this a fairly even contest. One could say only the home advantage separates the teams. It could be relevant to look at how Porto have performed in matches similar to this (as small favourites). Our database has found two matches with the results: Won two, drawn zero and lost zero.

Porto are traveling soon after this match as the Primeira Liga match at Tondela awaits in four days.

Goals are plentiful at Estádio Do Dragão in the league this season as Porto has scored 12 goals here in 4 home games. Porto have showed great defending skills in these home games, allowing the opposition to score only 1 goal.

Milan form and stats

Last season their Europa League adventure ended in the 8th finals against Manchester United.

3 wins, 1 draw and 0 losses. That’s the product of Milan playing as the away team in the Serie A this season. In general it has been a productive period now for Milan as they haven't lost any of their last 13 games.

Milan go into this game after a win, the home game against Hellas Verona that ended 3-2. Midfielder Franck Kessié was the best performer of that match, with a rating of 7.65. Kessié scored one goal, hit one key pass, dribled past the opponent 1 of 1 times and had 30 successful passes (of 36 total).

Preceding that game was the away Serie A victory against Atalanta with the score of 3-2.

So, this is expected to be a close game, an even contest. Looking at earlier matches with Milan playing away and similar expectations, we found three relevant matches. Results were two Milan wins, zero draws and one defeat.

There might be some complaints about the fixture list from the Milan manager S. Pioli as the team has another away game coming up in only four days, this time against Bologna.

Milan are not goal shy away from home in the league, finding the net 7 times in 4 away games so far. Milan have conceded 4 goals in these away matches.

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
