Melbourne City have traveled here for an interesting fight against the hosts Newcastle Jets. Prepare for the match with this A-League preview!

Insights:
  • Newcastle Jets has the most conceded goals in the first half (6) in A-League
  • Melbourne City haven’t played a single 0-0 game.

Melbourne City could be less fresh than the hosts in this fixture, as they played a A-League game only four sleeps ago. That game, against Central Coast Mariners, was also an away game. It's a tiring schedule for Melbourne City.

These teams have little in common geographically as Melbourne City have to travel 1000 kilometers to reach their opponents. The trip home will be especially long if the match ends in defeat.

Newcastle Jets form and stats

Three A-League home games done for Newcastle Jets, who are not happy collecting 0 points from these matches. Three consecutive losses here at McDonald Jones Stadium is hard to swallow for the home team. Both players, staff and the home crowd are desperate to get something from this match.

Newcastle travelled for their previous game, a trip to Western Sydney Wanderers that ended 1-1. Before that match, a win away at Wellington Phoenix.

Some members of the home team might already be thinking of their next match, the A-League game versus Western United in only three days. This game is also played here at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Newcastle Jets are certainly not overdoing their scoring at home in league matches, having created 3 goals in 3 games. Goals are flowing in at the wrong end for Newcastle Jets with 6 goals conceded in these matches.

Melbourne City form and stats

Melbourne City are doing rather OK so far in their away games in the A-League, having played 3 games and collected 3 points (1 win, 0 draws and 2 losses). Melbourne seem to be suffering from homesickness with two consecutive losses away. Third time lucky?

Two away games in a row for Melbourne, who will hope to get a better result in this one after losing 2-3 versus Central Coast Mariners in the A-League. A loss against Perth Glory was the result prior to that, in a home game.

A huge disappointment for Melbourne City in their last match (vs Central Coast Mariners). Leading 2-0 the victory seemed almost certain, but a fascinating collapse turned everything around and in the end all was lost in a 2-3 defeat.

A new game in only one day for Melbourne, the A-League home match versus Western Sydney Wanderers. Busy days.

Scoring goals is the main ingredient in creating success in football, and not only at home. So far Melbourne have scored 3 goals in 3 league games away. Melbourne's defence is not exactly unbeatable as they have conceded 5 goals from these trips.

Read more about A-League

The A-League is the top level of the Australian football league system. Seasons run from October to May. Ten teams play a regular season of 27 fixtures to create a league table winner and the highest placed teams qualify for a playoff. The league winner is called the “premier” while the playoff winner is the “champion”. There is no set system for relegation, unlike most leagues in the world.
