Wellington Phoenix form and stats

The home fans saw their team lose the first A-League game of the season here at WIN Stadium. Last season these fans witnessed 8 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses from Wellington Phoenix's 13 home games.

Wellington Phoenix manager U. Talay and his team return home after a 1-1 draw away versus Macarthur (placed 4th) in the A-League. Ahead of that match, Wellington lost 1-2 at home to Sydney.

The hosts are modest favourites in this match, with the bookmakers estimating the chance of a home win at about 50% +- five percent. It's interesting to look at how Wellington have performed under similar circumstances, so here are some numbers: When modest favourites like this (we found three games) they have won two times, drawn zero and lost one.

Another home game is coming up fairly shortly for the hosts, as Perth Glory are coming to town in three days.

At WIN Stadium, Wellington Phoenix has the goal stats of 1-2 (for/against) from 1 league fixture.

Newcastle Jets form and stats

Newcastle Jets have played one away game so far, a loss. Last season their away games stats in the A-League were 3 victories, 3 draws and 7 defeats from 13 fixtures. It's looking increasingly bleak for Newcastle Jets who now has to deal with a four game losing streak. Central Coast Mariners was the last time a defeat was avoided.

Newcastle failed to get anything from their last game, a A-League home match vs Brisbane Roar (placed 5th) that ended with defeat 1-2. A 1-2 loss hosting Macarthur before that.

Newcastle Jets are the outsiders in this one, but not by much. Their performance in similar games (being the away team and moderate outsiders) is three wins, one draw and six defeats. From a total of ten matches.

0 goals so far away for Newcastle Jets, while their defence has allowed the opposition to score 1. All from 1 league match away.

Head 2 Head

Wellington Phoenix-Newcastle Jets H2H statistics last ten meetings regardless of arena: Wellington Phoenix five wins, Newcastle Jets three wins, two draws. eight of these ten matches had three or more goals (over 2,5).

Read more about A-League

The A-League is the top level of the Australian football league system. Seasons run from October to May. Ten teams play a regular season of 27 fixtures to create a league table winner and the highest placed teams qualify for a playoff. The league winner is called the “premier” while the playoff winner is the “champion”. There is no set system for relegation, unlike most leagues in the world.
