National cups are something special for many teams and supporters. Today's match will decide whether it's Queen of the South or St. Mirren that keep their silverware dream alive.
It's no vacation for neither Queen of the South nor St. Mirren as both were in action only a few days ago. Expect some tired legs on the pitch and/or possibly some changes to the lineups.
Queen of the South form and stats
Last season, Queen's League Cup journey ended in the group stage. With 4 Championship wins, 2 draws and 8 defeats from their home games, Queen of the South are certainly not brimming with confidence. The home team are struggling everywhere these days as they haven't won a league-game, regardless of being the home or the away team, in ten attempts. It's been an uphill battle for Queen in their home games for quite some time now, as five matches in a row are lost here. Not since the Arbroath game have they avoided the disappointment of defeat.
A 1-1 draw away in the Championship before that, with Dunfermline Athletic the opponent.
The match schedule is unforgiving for Queen of the South as they have a new game in only three days, a League Cup match thankfully also at home. Partick Thistle are visiting.
The Queen fans would probably like to see some more goals scored at their own stadium in the league, the tally being 17 in 14 matches. It's been trouble in front of goal recently, as only -1 of these goals has been scored in their last three home matches. Queen's goalkeeper has had to pick the ball out of their own net 20 times. For more goal stats, check the Statistics tab above. There's been improvement defensively lately, as only -1 of these goals has been conceded in their last 3 home matches.
St. Mirren form and stats
They also participated in League Cup last season. This ended in the group stage. It's looking increasingly bleak for Mirren who now has to deal with a six game losing streak. Ross County was the last time a defeat was avoided. Three might be a magic number, but there's been little wizardry in Mirren's last three away games as they have all been lost.
Impressive finishing from R. Tait, D. Connolly, J. Shaughnessy and J. Obika secured the home win 4-1 against Partick Thistle in their previous game. A 1-2 defeat away at Aberdeen before that.
Head 2 Head
H2H stats regardless of arena (last ten matches): Queen three wins, zero draws and St. Mirren seven victories. As for goals, seven matches ended with three or more goals (over 2,5), three games had two or less.Top Goalscorers
