The Ekstraklasa, which carries the sponsorship name Lotto Ekstraklasa, is the top football league in Poland. It has 16 teams playing each other home and away to decide a regular season league table. The top eight teams then play a championship round while the bottom eight play a relegation round.
The I Liga (“Pierwsza liga”), also known by the sponsorship name Fortuna I Liga, is the second level of Polish football. It has 18 teams meeting each other home and away. After these fixtures the final league table is ready, with the top two teams promoted. The bottom three are relegated while the team in 15th place must play a relegation playoff.
The II Liga (“Druga Liga”) is the third level of the Polish football league pyramid. 18 teams play 34 fixtures each to decide the final league table. The top three teams at the end of the season are all promoted, while the fourth can promote through a playoff. The bottom four teams are relegated.
The Ekstraliga (Polish for Extra League) is the top level of women’s football in Poland. It was established in 1979. Twelve teams play 22 fixtures each in the regular season. After that the league table splits in two. The top six teams play a championship round while the bottom six plays a relegation round.
The Central Junior League (“Centralna Liga Juniorów” or CLJ) is the highest level of Polish U-19 football. It currently has 16 teams competing for the youth championship through playing 30 fixtures each. The bottom four teams are all relegated.
