Zenit form and stats

Last season their Champions League adventure ended in the group stage.

The Premier League results playing at home this season for Zenit are 4-0-0 (wins-draws-losses). In general it's been a long time since Zenit tasted defeat here at Saint Petersburg Stadium, as they have taken at least one point from their last 13 home games in the league.

Zenit's previous game was a Premier League match also played at home, ending 2-1 versus Krylya Sovetov. The home side are looking to build on that result. Malcom, a forward, was the highest rated player for the team in that game, collecting a rating of 8.41 (out of 10). Malcom hit the woodwork once, hit ten key passes and had 36 successful passes (of 44 total).

Before that match, a Premier League win away at Rubin Kazan.

Another home game is coming up fairly shortly for the hosts, as Sochi are coming to town in four days.

With an average of more than two goals per home game in the league (9 in 4 games), Zenit's attacking play is working. Zenit have conceded 4 in these home matches.

Malmö FF form and stats

They also participated in Europa League last season. This ended in the play-offs.

5 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. That’s the product of Malmö FF playing as the away team in the Allsvenskan this season. Total Champions League statistics for Malmö FF: 5 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses.

Malmö are travelling after their nice 5-1 home win in the Allsvenskan against Örebro. As mentioned above, Malmö FF was the only team on the pitch versus Örebro in their previous game, winning 5-1. This could be a tougher task. The attacker Antonio Čolak got a match rating of 9.15 in that game. Čolak scored one goal, signed up for two assists and hit two key passes.

Before that one, a nice away victory 1-0 at Elfsborg.

The visitors are returning home after this fixture, hosting Mjallby in just four days.

Malmö are not goal shy away from home in the league, finding the net 17 times in 10 away games so far. As opposed to that, Malmö have seen the ball go into their own net 11 times on the road.

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
