Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto get a break from their league challenge to fight for a possible trophy in this Champions League Group Stage fixture.

It's quite the trip for Porto when visiting Shakhtar as the cities are 4400 kilometers apart.

There’s little time for restitution or working hard at the training pitch these days, with both teams having played their last game less than four days ago.

Shakhtar Donetsk form and stats

Last season, Shakhtar Donetsk's Champions League journey ended in the group stage.

Perfect Premier League season at home so far for Shakhtar Donetsk 2 wins from 2 appearances.

The Shakhtar Donetsk club members enjoyed the previous fixture, watching their team host Obolon'-Brovar and win 1-0. Manager van Leeuwen felt very clever after Nazaryna scored the winning goal against Obolon'-Brovar, having brought on that player as a substitute in the 68th minute.

In the preceding match a 4-1 victory visiting Minai.

There's a new game coming up fairly quickly for Shakhtar as they are travelling to their away game against Rukh Vynnyky in the Premier League. That match is four days after this one.

Early season league goal statistics from Shakhtar Donetsk's 2 home games: {3 goals}, 1 conceded.

Porto form and stats

Last season their Champions League adventure ended in the round of 16 against Inter.

Porto are yet to lose a point on their Liga Portugal travels this season with 3 wins from 3 away games.

Two away games in a row for Porto, whose manager Conceição could celebrate last time after the win against Estrela Amadora. World class coaching! That was the thoughts of manager Conceição when Taremi scored the winning goal after coming on as a substitute in the 15th minute. Attacker Taremi got a player rating of 8.14 in the game. "Man of the match" Taremi scored one goal, hit one key pass and dribled past the opponent 2 of 2 times.

A draw for Porto before that, at their own venue hosting Arouca (1-1).

A new game in only four days for Porto, the Liga Portugal home match versus Gil Vicente. Busy days.

Porto are not goal shy away from home in the league, finding the net 5 times in 3 away games so far. It's not easy to score on Porto as they have only conceded 2 goals from these away games.

Head 2 Head

Porto have won at least one point in the last 4 matches (2-2-0) versus Shakhtar.

The matches between these clubs have sometimes been ill-tempered, having seen 3 sending-offs from the last four encounters.

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
