Venue: Red Bull Arena (4330 seats)

Champions League betting and spectator preview: Salzburg and Sevilla meet at Red Bull Arena to measure strength and learn who makes it to the next stage.

It's no vacation for neither Salzburg nor Sevilla as both were in action only a few days ago. Expect some tired legs on the pitch and/or possibly some changes to the lineups.

These teams have little in common geographically as Sevilla have to travel 2400 kilometers to reach their opponents. The trip home will be especially long if the match ends in defeat.

Salzburg form and stats

Last season their Champions League adventure ended in the group stage.

This stadium, Red Bull Arena, has been a fortress for Salzburg in the Tipico Bundesliga so far this season with the win-draw-loss statistic 7-1-0. On the other hand, in the Champions League, Salzburg has performed like this (both home and away): 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. The Salzburg fans aren't used to losing league-games here at Red Bull Arena and will expect new points from this game. Salzburg has played 18 games in a row here without a defeat.

Salzburg's previous game was a Tipico Bundesliga match also played at home, ending 2-1 versus Hartberg. The home side are looking to build on that result. Midfielder Mamady Diambou was the best player on the team with a rating of 7.84 (out of ten) in that game. Diambou hit two key passes, dribled past the opponent 3 of 3 times and had 49 successful passes (of 56 total).

Prior to that, an away loss at Austria Klagenfurt in the Tipico Bundesliga.

There's a new fixture coming up fairly quickly for Salzburg, as the Tipico Bundesliga home game vs Wattens is only three days away.

Salzburg are showing their attacking force in their league home games this season, scoring more than 2,5 goals per game on average (22 goals in 8 games). Salzburg have only conceded 5 from their league home games. For more goal stats, check the Statistics tab above. It's worth mentioning that 3 of these goals has been conceded in their last 3 home matches.

Sevilla form and stats

Sevilla's mission in Champions League last season failed in the 8th finals against Borussia Dortmund.

3 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses. That’s the product of Sevilla playing as the away team in the La Liga this season. The mentioned statistics is only from the league, looking at the Champions League stats, they have 1 win, 3 draws and 1 loss both home and away.

Sevilla had fun at their own home (Red Bull Arena) last time out, beating Villarreal 1-0. Lucas Ocampos scored. Diego Carlos was the top performer of the team in that game with a match score of 8.0. The defender Carlos won 4 of 6 duels.

Preceding that game was the away Copa Del Rey victory against Cordoba (after extra-time) with the score of 1-0.

Sevilla have another game away from home in just three days, a La Liga fixture against Athletic Club. A demanding fixture list for them!

The attacking power of Sevilla when travelling is not overwhelming with 7 goals scored from 8 league matches away. They concede less than a goal on average per away game (5 so far).

Head 2 Head

The sides have faced each other previously this season, with the final score Sevilla - Salzburg 1-1 written in the official records. Head to head numbers (for the last three meetings): Salzburg won zero games, one match ended in a draw and Sevilla have two wins. Over 2,5 goals / under 2,5 goals: zero / three

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
