Venue: Anfield (54074 seats)

It's game one of two in the Champions League as Liverpool host Real Madrid. This is a Round of 16 fixture played over two legs and nothing will be decided tonight.

It's quite the trip for Real Madrid when visiting Liverpool as the cities are 2000 kilometers apart.

It's no vacation for neither Liverpool nor Real Madrid as both were in action only a few days ago. Expect some tired legs on the pitch and/or possibly some changes to the lineups.

Liverpool form and stats

Last season, Liverpool's Champions League journey ended in the final.

The home supporters can't complain about results here at Anfield as Liverpool have scored 25 goals to get 24 points from 11 games. The overall stats in the Premier League are 7-3-1 (wins-draws-losses). 5W-0D-1L is the hard facts regardless of venue in the Champions League for Liverpool.

Nothing to worry about in defence for Liverpool, as their goalkeeper Alisson Ramses Becker has completely shut out the opponents for 199 minutes in the Premier League.

It's back home for Liverpool, who return with a good feeling about themselves after beating Newcastle United away with the result 2-0. Núñez and Gakpo found the net in that victory. Alexander-Arnold was "man of the match" with a rating of 8.34 out of 10. The defender Alexander-Arnold served one assist, hit four key passes and won 2 of 5 duels.

Previous to that game, a Premier League home match hosting Everton in a game that was won 2-0.

There's a new game coming up fairly quickly for Liverpool as they are travelling to their away game against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. That match is four days after this one.

The Liverpool manager Klopp has got the team scoring with 25 from 11 home games in the league. Liverpool have only conceded 9 from their league home games. For more goal stats, check the Statistics tab above. There's been improvement defensively lately, as only 1 of these goals has been conceded in their last three home matches.

Real Madrid form and stats

Nothing but glory last season for Madrid, as they won the Champions League.

Real Madrid's travelling support has been rewarded for their time and money so far this season, having witnessed Real Madrid collect 27 points from their 12 away matches in the La Liga. 9 victories and 0 draws have created these points (and only 3 defeats). The mentioned statistics is only from the league, looking at the Champions League stats, they have 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss both home and away.

Did you know that the longest clean sheet streak is 1816 minutes? This record is held by Mazaropi when he played in Vasco da Gama. Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is eager to challenge this, with his 257 minutes of keeping balls out from the net.

Two travels in a row for Madrid, whose coach Ancelotti could celebrate last time after the win against Osasuna. Courtois was the team player of the game with the player rating of 7.82. The agile goalkeeper Courtois topped it up with a clean sheet.

Before that, Real Madrid secured a home win against Elche with the score 4-0.

The visitors are returning home after this fixture, hosting Atletico Madrid in just four days.

It's not easy to score on Real Madrid as they have only conceded 10 goals from these away games.
