The first leg ended Porto-Chelsea 0-2. All is set for the decider in this Champions League Quarter-finals fixture!

It’s busy days for these teams as both were in action only a few days ago. There’s no rest for the wicked, or in this case; no rest for Chelsea and Porto.

It's quite the trip for Porto when visiting Chelsea as the cities are 2000 kilometers apart.

Chelsea form and stats

Last season, Chelsea's Champions League journey ended in the 8th finals against Bayern München.

7-5-3 (win-draw-lost) are the Premier League numbers at home for Chelsea so far this season. On the other hand, in the Champions League, Chelsea has performed like this (both home and away): 7 wins, 2 draws and 0 losses.

It's back home for Chelsea, who return with a good feeling about themselves after beating Crystal Palace away with the result 4-1. Kurt Zouma, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulišić (2) found the net in that victory. In the game before, an away victory in the Champions League match versus Porto with a 2-0 scoreline.

The hosts are modest favourites in this match, with the bookmakers estimating the chance of a home win at about 50% +- five percent. It's interesting to look at how Chelsea have performed under similar circumstances, so here are some numbers: When modest favourites like this (we found seven games) they have won three times, drawn three and lost one.

The match schedule is unforgiving for Chelsea as they have a new game in only four days, a FA Cup match thankfully also at home. Manchester City are visiting.

Chelsea have proved capable of finding the net in their games here at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán with 27 goals in 15 league matches. 16 goals have been conceded. There's been improvement defensively lately, as only 1 of these goals has been conceded in their last 3 home matches.

Porto form and stats

Porto was sent out of Champions League in the 3rd qualifying round last season.

Porto's travelling support has been rewarded for their time and money so far this season, having witnessed Porto collect 30 points from their 13 away matches in the Primeira Liga. 9 victories and 3 draws have created these points (and only 1 defeat). When we have look at the Champions League statistics, we find 5W-1D-3L. This is both home and away. Things are running smoothly for Porto who hasn't tasted defeat in their last 20 matches, regardless of venue and tournament. Their last defeat was against Paços de Ferreira. Porto are enjoying a nice run from their away games now, having played ten in a row without losing.

It's the second away game in a row for Porto, but there's smiles all around after the 2-0 victory versus Tondela in the Primeira Liga last time out. Preceding that, the 0-2 home loss versus Chelsea.

Porto are the outsiders in this one, but not by much. Their performance in similar games (being the away team and moderate outsiders) is two wins, zero draws and one defeat. From a total of three matches.

Porto has another fixture away, a Primeira Liga game, against Nacional in just four days. A tough schedule for the visitors!

With an average of more than two away goals per league game away, Porto are regular goalscorers on their travels. They concede less than a goal on average per away game (12 so far).

Head 2 Head

The dueling parties have met before this season: Porto - Chelsea 0-2. Numbers for the last seven meetings between these two teams are: five wins for Chelsea, one draw and one win for Porto. Over 2,5 goals: two times; under 2,5 goals: five games.

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
