Competition: Wed 04.Oct
Match begins: 19:00 (UTC)
Venue: SIGNAL IDUNA PARK (81365 seats)

Borussia Dortmund and Milan get a break from their league challenge to fight for a possible trophy in this Champions League Group Stage fixture.

These teams have little in common geographically as Milan have to travel 800 kilometers to reach their opponents. The trip home will be especially long if the match ends in defeat.

There has not been much time to rest for the guests, as they played a Serie A game only four days ago.

Borussia Dortmund form and stats

Last season, Borussia's Champions League journey ended in the round of 16 against Chelsea.

Seven points from three Bundesliga home games is a great start for Borussia Dortmund, who are hoping to build on that form here at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.

It's back home for Borussia Dortmund, who return with a good feeling about themselves after beating Hoffenheim away with the result 3-1. Reus, Füllkrug and Ryerson found the net in that victory. Ryerson was "man of the match" with a rating of 8.41 out of 10. The defender Ryerson scored one goal, hit one key pass and won 6 of 7 duels.

Before that game, the 1-0 home victory against Wolfsburg.

Some members of the home team might already be thinking of their next match, the Bundesliga game versus Union Berlin in only three days. This game is also played here at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.

Borussia are certainly not overdoing their scoring at home in league matches, having created 4 goals in 3 games. From these home matches, Borussia Dortmund have conceded only 2 goals.

Milan form and stats

Last season their Champions League adventure ended in the semi-finals against Inter.

The story so far for the visiting team on their Serie A travels is 3 wins, 0 draws and 1 defeat.

Okafor and Pulišić scored in Milan's previous match, the home game against Lazio that ended 2-0. The attacker Leão got a match rating of 8.3 in that game. Leão signed up for two assists, hit three key passes, dribled past the opponent 4 of 7 times and had 19 successful passes (of 21 total).

Ahead of that match was the victory versus Cagliari at their stadium, the result 3-1.

As mentioned above, this is an open game with no clear favourite. We have found 5 similar matches played by Milan in our archives, and the results are: 1 win for Milan, 1 draw and 3 defeats.

There might be some complaints about the fixture list from the Milan manager Pioli as the team has another away game coming up in only three days, this time against Genoa.

Defensive performances away have varied in quality as Milan have conceded 7 goals on the road. For more goal statistics, check out the Statistics tab above.

The UEFA Champions League is the major international club football tournament in Europe. The competition begins already in late June and lasts for almost a year, ending with the final played in late May or early June. After several qualifying rounds the group stage is where the “true” Champions League begins for many viewers. Eight groups with four teams each battle through six rounds to qualify for the knock-out phase. Then a round of 16, quarterfinals and then semifinals needs to be won before a place in the final is secured.
