Competition: Wed 12.August
Match begins: 07:35 (UTC)
Venue: Spotless Stadium (83500 seats)

Getting closer to the top teams is at stake when these two mid-table clubs battle it out. Both will be aiming to improve their league table standing, Perth Glory in 5th and Western United in 7th place.

These are busy days for the home team, as they were in action only four days ago in the A-League. This match was also played here at Spotless Stadium. With two consecutive home games the intense schedule is somewhat softened. Still, Western United have had more rest.

These teams have little in common geographically as Western United have to travel 3400 kilometers to reach their opponents. The trip home will be especially long if the match ends in defeat.

Perth Glory form and stats

When playing at home in the A-League, Perth Glory, who have the most clean sheets (8) in A-League, have managed 5 wins, 2 draws and suffered 5 defeats from 12 games. The Perth manager T. Popović might feel some added pressure to get something from this game after two straight home defeats.

The Perth fans got no joy from their last match, a A-League game also here at Spotless Stadium: A 0-4 defeat against Melbourne Victory (placed 10th). In the preceding match a 3-1 victory visiting Western Sydney Wanderers.

Perth were outplayed and humiliated in their previous game, as mentioned in the paragraph above. They will need to reinstall their confidence before this one.

The Perth manager T. Popović has got the team scoring with 24 from 12 home games in the league. With more than 1,5 conceded goals on average, the Perth defense is not exactly impregnable. 21 goals conceded from 12 games. You can find more goal stats on the Statistics tab above.

Western United form and stats

As the visiting team in A-League matches, Western United have produced an overall stat of 5-2-4 so far.

Western won their last game, 5-3 versus Western Sydney Wanderers played at home. It was a defeat before that one as the away game against Newcastle Jets wasn't a success with a 0-1 loss.

As you can tell from the result, the match against Western Sydney Wanderers was as crazy as a clown in a village circus. Great fun for the neutral supporter with 8 goals, will the fun continue today? Western United goalie Filip Kurto was high and low in the Western Sydney Wanderers game, contributing ten saves towards the victory.

Western has another fixture away, a A-League game, against Sydney in just three days. A tough schedule for the visitors!

Western are scoring more than one goal per away game on average, having accumulated 16 away goals from 11 games (in the league). 12 goals have been conceded by Western United in these games.

The A-League is the top level of the Australian football league system. Seasons run from October to May. Ten teams play a regular season of 27 fixtures to create a league table winner and the highest placed teams qualify for a playoff. The league winner is called the “premier” while the playoff winner is the “champion”. There is no set system for relegation, unlike most leagues in the world.
