A-League: The middle-of-the-table positions shows the journey Adelaide United and Western Sydney Wanderers have been on so far. Both sides are eager to play; let's go!

Insights:
  • Adelaide United have the most scored goals in the second half (9) in A-League
  • All of Western Sydney Wanderers's away-matches have had more than 1,5 goals.

These teams have little in common geographically as Western Sydney Wanderers have to travel 1300 kilometers to reach their opponents. The trip home will be especially long if the match ends in defeat.

Little time to rest for the host team, as they played a A-League match only four days back. Thankfully the previous game, versus Melbourne City, was also a home game here at Coopers Stadium. The away team is better rested.

Adelaide United form and stats

When playing at home in the A-League, Adelaide United have managed 1 win, 2 draws and suffered 1 defeat from 4 games.

Adelaide United drew their last game, also a home match. Melbourne City (placed 4th) was the opponent, 2-2 the score. The hometeam coach Veart made a successful contribution in the game against Melbourne City, bringing on Ibusuki who scored the equalizer in the 2-2 draw. Goodwin felt an ounce or two of guilt after the draw against Melbourne City as the player was unable to convert a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Midfield player Juande got a match rating of 7.32 in that game, the max score being 10. Juande hit one key pass and had 67 successful passes (of 79 total).

1-1 away at Melbourne Victory before that.

There will be little rest for Adelaide United after this match as they are travelling to Brisbane Roar for a A-League game in only three days.

Goals decide football matches and Adelaide United are scoring many of them at home; 9 on target from 4 league matches. Defensively it’s touch-and-go for the home team as 6 goals have been conceded.

Western Sydney Wanderers form and stats

Western Sydney Wanderers are doing rather OK so far in their away games in the A-League, having played 3 games and collected 4 points (1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss).

It's another away game for the visitors, as they travelled to Melbourne City (placed 4th) in their previous outing. The A-League match ended in a draw 3-3. It looked so good for Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City, but the job was not completed and victory was lost as a 2-0 lead was turned into a 3-3 draw. An off the wall match with heaps of goals last time out for Western Sydney Wanderers, as mentioned above. 6 goals in that match, will this match be as refreshing? Midfielder Ugarkovic was the best performer of that match, with a rating of 8.1. Ugarkovic served one assist, hit two key passes, dribled past the opponent 1 of 2 times and had 54 successful passes (of 62 total).

It was a defeat before that one as the away game against Central Coast Mariners wasn't a success with a 0-2 loss.

Western Sydney Wanderers are not goal shy away from home in the league, finding the net 5 times in 3 away games so far. Wanderers struggle to build an impenetrable defensive wall in away matches with a total of 5 goals conceded from these games.

Head 2 Head

As for the last ten games between these two teams, there's three Adelaide United victories, four draws and three Western Sydney Wanderers wins. Over/under statistics; eight of these games ended with three goals or more, two matches with two goals or less.

Read more about A-League

The A-League is the top level of the Australian football league system. Seasons run from October to May. Ten teams play a regular season of 27 fixtures to create a league table winner and the highest placed teams qualify for a playoff. The league winner is called the “premier” while the playoff winner is the “champion”. There is no set system for relegation, unlike most leagues in the world.
