The Primera División, sometimes known as the Copa TIGO or División Profesional, is the top level of football in Paraguay. The season lasts almost a year, running from January to December in two parts; Apertura and Clausura. The twelve teams meet each other twice in each section.
The División Intermedia (Intermediate Division), also known as the Segunda División, is the second tier of the Paraguayan football system. It has 16 teams playing a regular season of 30 fixtures each to decide a final league table. The two top teams are promoted while the bottom three are relegated.
