Liga MX is the top division in the Mexican football league system. Each season the league has two tournaments, Apertura (opening) and Clausura (closing). This means that the Liga MX has two champions per season. The Liga MX is the fourth most attended football league in the world.
The Ascenso MX, or Liga Ascenso, is the second level of the football league pyramid in Mexico. It has 15 teams competing in two league tournaments per year, the Apertura (opening) and the Clausura (closing). Only one team is promoted to the top league in Mexico, the Liga MX.
The Primera División Femenil de México, usually referred to as the Liga MX Femenil, is the highest division of women’s football in Mexico. The Liga MX Femenil is divided in two groups of nine teams each. The 18 teams play two championships, the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura, each identical in format.
